About Us
Kermanshah plant protection research department started its activity in September 1972 under the title "Laboratory for Plant Pests and Diseases" with two personnel (one researcher and one technician). Until 1973, it worked in a room in the General Department of Agriculture and after that in a rented building in Fatemieh Square. At that time, due to limited facilities and insufficient personnel, research was limited only on sugar beet pests. Then, in 1974, in order to develop its activity in all the western regions of the country, the design and operation of an equipped laboratory, which was built in the current building, began. In 1978, the building was ready and officially, after handing over the new building, it continued its work under the title "Department of Plant Pests and Diseases" with 5 researchers and 11 research plans. In 1988, with the establishment of the Agricultural Research Center, this department continued to work as one of the important departments of the center. In 2008, this department was renamed as "Kermanshah Plant Protection Research Department". The most important purpose of establishing this department was to study the most important pests, diseases and weeds of the major agricultural products of the region.

Duties

• Development and expansion of strategic research in the field of pest, disease and weed management of major agricultural products of the province.
• Collection and storage of harmful agents and biological control agents
• Evaluation of new methods of pest, disease and weed management
• Conducting applied, developmental and basic research in the field of pest, disease and weeds management
• Estimation of damage caused by damaging factors in crops
• Evaluation and introduction of new poisons to control pests, diseases and weeds of crops in the province
• Implementation of research-extension projects
• Implementation of on farm plans
• Participation in the evaluation of the resistance of agricultural cultivars and lines against the diseases of the agricultural crops of the province
• Conducting research in the field of biological control of pests and diseases
• Communication and cooperation with the Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection and other departments
